About Summer Coding Camp

The Magic of Our Computer Camp

At Summer Coding Camp, we offer kids of ages 10 and above a structured opportunity to start learning a new language! Our enriched program is designed to help the campers take their first step into the world of programming. The courses offered will cover the basic fundamentals of specific languages, providing an opportunity for students to get exposed and develop their interests in the field of Computer Science, all while making new friends and learning exciting new skills. Courses Offered:

Note: If you choose to take all 3 courses, it will take up about 5 hours a day. Please make sure to think before you sign up for the courses

Java

In our Java course, you will learn:

1) Basic Java commands and APIs using industry tools

2) Foundational data organization and manipulation

3) Code control structures, such as loops and if/else statements

4) How to structure code using methods, parameters, and returns

About 1 hour and 30 mins per day, 2 classes per week: 6 classes total

Class Time:  5:15-6:45 PM PST

Class Days: Monday and Wednesday

Python

In our Python course, you will learn:

1) Environment Setup 

2) Python Syntax and Strings and Console Output 

3) Conditionals, Lists, Dictionaries, and Functions 

4) Loops and BitWise Operator 

5) Classes and File Input and Output

About an hour per day, 2 classes per week:  6 classes total

Class Time:  4:00-5:00 PM PST 
Class Days: Monday and Wednesday

HTML+CSS

​In this course, you will learn:

HTML Basics, CSS Basics and then advance to Intermediate HTML and Web Development

Around 1 hour and 30 mins per day, 3 classes per week: 9 classes total

Class Time:  2:00-3:30 PM PST 

Class Days: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

Session 2 is NOT a continuation of Session 1

Office Hours: this an extra hour of class, designated for clarifying and answering all doubts and questions!
HTML: Sunday 2:00-3:00 PM
Java: Friday 5:15 - 6:15 PM

Python: Thursday 4:00 - 5:00 PM

Inspiring our Young Programmers!

As a closure for our campers from the first session, and as a beginning inspiration for our new enrollees, two Computer Science/Computer Engineering professors from top-ranked UC's have graciously volunteered to offer a piece of their knowledge on the 31st of July, from 2:30 to 3:45 PM PST. Make sure to utilize this golden opportunity to hear directly from experienced individuals! Sign up now, spots are limited (open to new enrollees as well!).

Tracy Larrabee

Tracy Larrabee is a professor of Computer Science and Engineering. She has been teaching at UCSC since 1990. She graduated with a PhD and MS from Stanford, and a BS from Caltech. She was associate dean for undergraduate affairs at the UCSC school of engineering for 7 years.

Manu Sridharan

Manu Sridharan is an associate professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of California, Riverside. He does research in the areas of programming languages and software engineering.  Before joining UC Riverside, Prof. Sridharan worked at Uber, Samsung, and IBM.  He received his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley.
